I SUCESSFULLY HELPED MYSELF WITH THIS:
I have a brand new Inspiron. I bought it with Windows XP. I do not recall to have had the problem of the drvmCDB and diagnostic traces windows until I came with the idea to UPGRADE my XP to Windows Vista Ultimate last week. By doing so I lost my Dell guarantee for technical support. They just wanted me to uninstall Vista (no way, it took me so long!!), so, despite being a total dummy for computer stuff I decided to try by my own and I found all your helpful comments in this forum (I have just signed in because I think I discovered something that may help others). Neither Dell nor Microsoft helped me. Actually Dell should have done that because it was all Dell problem (Sonic).
Well, enough bla, bla. Here is what happened. I spent almost 2 hours searching for "ssdiag" but I did not find anywhere you suggested. Actually, I used the Vista search and nothing. Suddenly I just tried this: Opened the TASK MANAGER and then "processes" tab. I just stared to see the movements on the "Memory (Private Working Set)" with nothing but only the two creepy windows opened (I did not do anything special prior to this, I did not do any change at msconfig neither the antivirus, etc.). Then I found this "Image name": "DIADiag.exe". I click it with the mouse and went to "properties" and found it was a Sonic file. I "opened file location" by another click to the icon (you can also get the location file by selecting so once in "properties"). I went to the file (somewhere in Windows) and moved to a dummy file I have created to keep a record of all my endless updates and patches due to my funny idea to upgrade to Vista. Then I restarted the computer and those awful little windows were absolutely gone and the Roxio burning software still running.
I do not know why I got a different name of the file controlling these windows, perhaps because of my upgrade to Vista or due to the "patch" I had to download thereafter... But I think this will help for anyone that cannot accept to "reinstall all your system" and that does not have "ssdiag" on their files.
Let me know if I helped. This is the very first time I do something on my own regarding computers...
