weird PC activity

Christo

on my desktop PC i just noticed something just now as a turned it on

it posted and beeped as it usually does

it then proceeded to do the "dum de dum daaaaa" windows login sound

however it went all flickery, like a skipping CD while this sound was plaing
so i rushed into the room and found the PC had re booted its self

dont tell me this is more bad memory, i have has blue screen hell with
windows since exchanging my abit motherboard for an MSI because the abit
board broke

had one stick on crucial ddr333 (pc2700) it isnt amazing ram but its quick
enough that stick started playing up, which i was suprised at since it was
crucial and i believe it has a lifetime warranty... dont have any documents
that came with the RAM, just the ram with the crucial sticker on the side

i have had some pc2111 ram in the system (not mine) and it appeared to be
fine

so dya reckon crucial will exchange memory thats being a bit iffy?

i got it off ebuyer about 6 months ago and i am getting
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

CRC errors when installing games random game crashes etc

the other suspision i have is the hard drive

its a second hand IDE maxtor 6y*****

anyhow i have checked that with powermax and it came up clear, as for the
RAM i know about memtest but have floppy disk drive to ceate disks to run
it..

any advice anyone please

Im not sure why you think the crucial is bad. Did the 2100 ram you
replaced it with to test solve the bluescreens? Ive got crucial 2100
in an old board Im using at this moment and its been really reliable.
In fact all the memory Ive had it good from PNY, Centon, Kingston,
Crucial etc. Of course if you mishandled it -- static electricity ,
installed it without the power plug pulled out , had the stick not
seated correctly etc.

You know if you do a search theres a CD image free download that has
memtest and all kind of other stuff - the Maxtor, WD diagnostic stuff
and lots of other stuff on the CD that boots up. Its great for people
who dont have a floppy. It was called Super CD or Ultra CD or
something like that.

Ive got a neighbor with an ASUS k8v SE deluxe the 754 socket amd 64
VIA based board. That thing is just like yours. Suddenly started blue
screening like crazy and giving all kind of weird problems. What
happens is its OK then progressively gets worse and worse to the point
even safe mode doesnt work. Also the video card gets stuck in a low
color mode at low res.

I just reinstalled WIn XP again and it works OK. It might be the PS
though he bought a 100 buck one I forget what brand. And its his 16 yr
old teenage sons who has a tendency to immediately start searching out
porn sites and files probably fillled with viruses, trojans and
downloading them. I think thats the problem as WIn XP files I found
were really messed up and a simple check disk and win repair fixed it
the last time.
