Weird mouse activity within browsers

Recently my mouse started selecting objects within browser screens
(whether online or within desktop search) when the left mouse button is
clicked. However far down the page I am, all information from the top
to wherever I am will be selected. I can click links within a web
page, but I am unable to select a folder in Windows, since every folder
I am near tries to open with it. This happened once two weeks ago and
I reinstalled Setpoint software and problem was solved. No such luck
this time. Also, some keys on the keyboard (particularly the period
key) will stick in the shift mode for a short time, so I am unable to
type a period (.) during that time. This started at same time mouse
issues began.

I am using a Logitech G5 Lasermouse, a Microsoft Intellipoint 2.0
mouse, and a generic serial mouse. I have tried each one independently
with the same results. I have uninstalled and reinstalled all keyboard
and mouse software, used old versions and new of each software, and ran
various spyware and virus detectors (AdAware, SpyBot, TrendMicro).

The only fix so far is running in safe mode. I have none of these
issues then. I am a fairly logical person and can troubleshoot pretty
well, but I have hit a wall. Can anyone help me? Thank you so much
for taking the time to listen to my problem.

At the risk of being told I am "a stupid idiot who knows nothing and
shouldn't bother posting (not by you, by another)" I am gonna say it anyway:
try the following. Check for driver conflicts, spyware, viruses. If possible
try using another mouse to see if has the same problems.

I have tried numerous anti-virus programs, as well as using different
mice. Nothing works so far. I can still work in safe mode, but my
keyboard and mouse act eratically in normal environment. Any other
suggestions???

Go to control panel and click the mouse icon. Check to make sure nothing is
checked that shouldn't be. Have a look to see if Clicklock is checked..if so
uncheck it.

Tried that as well. All menu options for mouse and keyboard seem to be
in order. Now along with the mouse selecting everything, the keyboard
is in "shift" mode at all times, meaning I can't type lower case
letters or any numbers at all. If I hit Caps Lock, the letters go back
to lower case but still can't type numbers. Can't find any virus info
on any of the major sites. Any other ideas?
