Weird desktop problem!

I renamed "My Computer", "My Network Places", and then changed the
trash icons. A few hours later I noticed that all the names and icons
had reverted to their defaults. To make a long story short, I've been
tinkering with the desktop about a week now and can't figure our how
to make these settings "stick" . . . can anyone help?

You really want to destroy your computer, don't you. The items you are
trying to change are "protected" so that you can not change them. The
computer would fail if you did. The trash icon can be changed.

Hello Wesley,

The subkeys identified in the link did not exist in my registry where
they were supposed to be. So I downloaded the program and reset My
Computer and My Network Places accordingly. I then refreshed the
desktop as instructed by the program and the names changed. That's
the good news.

The bad news is that I rebooted, then refreshed the desktop, and the
names reverted to their defaults.

Thanks for the try,
Bill
