That cookie is blocked by IE7 if you block 3rd party cookies. It does have
a compact privacy policy--I haven't figured out how to make sense out of
that info, though.

What's the big deal? I'm using IE6 set to disable 3rd party cookies, and I
always have Webtrends showing in my privacy alert when I visit these
newsgroups. None of my scanners ever finds it because I wipe out all extra
cookies at log off with Crap Cleaner. I only keep the ones I want. It doesn't
seem to me that IE7 is all that special. Of course I don't dare to use it
yet. Anway, if anyone has any leftover homemade cookies, send some my way.

I've got some macaroons downstairs my wife and daughter made. Not sure
why--I sure don't like coconut especially.....

I'm seeing this cookie at a number of Microsoft properties--MSDN, and some
others--can't get you a list at the moment, Verizon seems to be having
difficulties.

I've seen it. It's real--and I see the same cookie at a number of Microsoft
sites. I ran an Adaware scan, and it did not flag this cookie, but did
other webtrends cookies.

So far, I would say this is a cookie Microsoft is using to watch traffic
patterns between their own domains--of which there are a number. It has a
privacy policy, but I haven't figured out how to make that intelligible to
humans.

If you'd like the benefits of these groups, with the added benefit of faster
speed of use, and local copies of messages, with search capabilities (and no
cookies!) see the info on how to access via NNTP, here:

One more note: I've set my cookie handling to "high" in IE 7--I think this
is the same in IE6--read the description of that setting. This cookie goes
right through, so I'm willing to accept it's harmlessness.
