Website display problems

Using a new Dell laptop with XP. Websites do not display properly. Fonts are several point sizes larger (and text size is set on medium) plus tables do not display colors they should, etc. Can't fit Yahoo website on one screen because of text problems. Have exhausted display, monitor settings, text size, encoding, etc., and can't seem to understand problem. Internet Explorer is just not using font specifications and table specifications of web source code

Please post or e-mail (e-mail address removed)

Thanks
