WebDwarf HTML Editor

task two

Just wondering if anyone has used WebDwarf as their HTML Editor?

It looks like a fairly interesting program with several features not usually
found in other freeware of this type.

From their web page:
Web Page authoring has never been easier or more affordable. WebDwarf Free
is Virtual Mechanics' easy to use drag-and-drop webpage editor. Features
include a word processor with spell checker and link editor, built-in
graphics creation and image editing, enhanced page layout including a
snap-to grid and tabs, and an FTP client.

The program is by Virtual Mechanics, here's the url:

I've used it and I like it, however, it uses absolute positioning of
elements. Everything -- including text -- is essentially rendered as a
graphic and the graphic is then positioned via HTML code. This can be a good
thing or a bad thing.

It's a good thing because it allows you to do layouts that would be
impossible to do in HTML -- layer effects, rotation effects and the like.

It's a bad thing cuz viewers who have their resolution set at anything other
than what you used to design the page, will either have to scroll sideways
to see all your content, or they will see it "bunched up" on the left side
of their screen. Things such as text can't be resized using normal browser
controls.

Also, it's a one-way process. When you create a page and save it, Web Dwarf
saves it in a proprietory format. Once you are ready, you export to HTML.
After that though, it becomes nearly impossible to edit in HTML. So you
can't easily tweak a page via FTP. You would have to go back to the original
Web Dwarf page, make your changes thens upload it again.

Absolute positioning code also really bloats your page size though that may
not be an issue with you.

Tanner, thanks for that info. I guess it is a bit too restrictive for my
needs. Too bad it can't be 'twinned' with another editor to come up with
both the absolute positioning and the flexibility of editing in another
editor, etc.
