Webcam Transmission

Ron

I have Windows XP SP 1 and MSN MEssenger 6.1. When I
click to start a webcam conversation with one of my
contacts, my camera will not connect and transmit to the
contact. It use to work fine, but now it doesn't. I
can see her, but she can't see me. The little screen
opens up, but it's black. Test messaging works fine and
audio works fine.

Hi Ron -

I have been having a similar problem. I've been using
Windows XP SP1 and Windows Messenger 4.7 (just upgraded
yesterday to 5.0) to do video conversations with
relatives using Logitech QuickCam Zoom web cams.

Things had been working fine for the past year until
about 4-5 weeks ago when the video conversations stopped
working.

Makes me wonder if Microsoft didn't send something out in
a recent WindowsXP Update patch that broke things.

I upgraded myself and my brother to Windows Messenger 5.0
yesterday to see if that would fix things. I can now do
video conversations with him, but not my sister or dad,
who still are on Messenger 4.7

Also, I can only do video conversations with my brother
if I have my PC connected directly to my DSL modem. If I
have my Linksys BEFW11S4 router in the loop, the video
conversation doesn't work.

The odd thing is that I've been doing video conversations
for the past year, using Windows Messenger 4.7, with the
Linksys router in place, and everything worked FINE until
about 4-5 weeks ago. Go figure!

Sorry I can't be of any help, but I did want you to know
that you're not alone out there. I think something
changed recently, as I see a lot of posts from people
having similar problems. Best of luck.

Regards,

--Tim
