I am in need of a webpage to text converter to save web pages
in pure text format , online .

I want to use this for capturing mail pages like Yahoo which do not
save to harddrive.

The saved text should have file names with serial numbers like
file001.txt , file002.txt etc.

Please help..

If you're using an MSIE-based browser, then IE Text Archiver will do what
you need. It adds a context-menu item to the browser, for auto-saving your
selected text (together with URL and datetime) to unique text files.

.. . .

If you're using a MOZ-based browser, you might post that, so that folks
familiar with the available extensions can suggest something providing
similar function.

I downloaded this file and upon installation (which was a non-standard
proceedure) it activated my Norton Ainti-virus which gave the warning:
"malicious script detected" and recommended stopping installation. Does
anyone know about this?

The file is perfectly fine, and there have been a number of ACF'ers over
time that have installed it. You can always open with a text editor, to
view the script in the htm file, and the script of the vbs that's used
for automating the setup. Norton probably imagines "a script" and "a
malicious script" are one and the same thing.

Yes, thanks ! This solved my problem ! Norton AV had alerted but I
ignored.
But the program would be more useful if , by pressing an icon on IE
the web page content is saved as a text file .
Also, for every web page , it is asking the file name pattern which
could be avoided .

The disadvantage to using toolbar icon add-ons is that they tend to work for
only iexplore.exe -- whereas the context-menu method works for all the other
programs (web browsers and other) which host the MS Browser control. Still,
your question interests me. I might test to see if I can imitate another
entry, and make up GUID, to get IE Text Archiver implanted as an iexplorer
toolbar icon....
Also, for every web page , it is asking the file name pattern which

For this program, it's a good idea to save the contents of the original
zip. Run the vbs install script again (no need to uninstall first), and
this time, choose "No" on the following prompt:

Default or Confirmation?
When you capture a text selection as an archive, do you want to be
able to choose between three file names?

.. . . .
If wanted, you could actually configure to have two separate IE Text
Archiver menu entries. One which does the silent autosave with datetime
as filename. The other which brings up the naming choice prompt. However.
To set that up would require some labor....

You'd need to have two separate ArchiveSelTxt?.htm files set up. And
you'd need to go to your registry, this key:
[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MenuExt\Archive Selected Text]
Renaming "Archive Selected Text." To have two distinct reg keys. The
separate htm files being pointed to in each (and the Flag value in each
key retained).

I'll abort my tangent at this point, skip further specifics, as it's not
been called for anyway. Just I should note that my outline probably makes
that configuration procedure sound a bit more complex than it actually is.
