Web Page could not be found

Whenever I startup Outlook, I get a popup that says "Web page could not be
found. blah blah" . I have to select OK for it to continue to get my
messages. Why is it doing this? What can I do to not cause it to do this?

Thanks,
Tony

Please provide the following information:

1) Version of Outlook
2) Email environment: Exchange, POP3, etc.
3) Does you have a PST? If so, what is the size?
4) Are there any error messages/numbers?
5) Have you checked the application event viewer for any Outlook or
Office-related errors? If there are, what are the Event ID number(s) &
source(s)?
6) What troubleshooting steps have you taken yourself, so no one tells you
to take steps you've already tried?
7) Is the antivirus scanning incoming/outgoing mail?
8) What is the polling frequency for mail?
9) Are there any COMs, Add Ins, synch software (for handheld), Fax software
running?
10) Are there any installed desktop search tools or toolbars in Outlook,
such as Google?

3) Does you have a PST? If so, what is the size? Yes. 120MB.
4) Are there any error messages/numbers?
No, just the popup when Outlook starts up.
5) Have you checked the application event viewer for any Outlook or
Office-related errors? If there are, what are the Event ID number(s) &
source(s)?
Sorry, I do not know how to get that info.
6) What troubleshooting steps have you taken yourself, so no one tells you

Really none. Since nothing is highlighted with this happens, and it happens
before any messages have been downloaded, I'm not sure what I can do.
7) Is the antivirus scanning incoming/outgoing mail? Yes, McAfee.
8) What is the polling frequency for mail?
5 min. But again, this happens initially on startup.
9) Are there any COMs, Add Ins, synch software (for handheld), Fax
software
running? No, not that I know of.
10) Are there any installed desktop search tools or toolbars in Outlook,
such as Google?
Goggle is installed but disabled.

The first thing you need to do is provide the exact error message when
Outlook starts up. The "blah blah" part is pretty hard to troubleshoot!
To get to the event viewer, click on Start > Run and type in: "eventvwr"
without the quotes, and hit enter. Browse the application portion for any
errors related to Microsoft Office. Errors are indicated in red.
Antivirus often causes problems for Outlook when scanning incoming and
outgoing mail. You can safely turn that off without compromising your
security.
5 minute polling is often too frequent and can cause timeout issues between
Outlook and the mail server, just so you know.

Sorry, I thought this might have been a well understood message. Here is it
in total:

The web page could not be found. This error could have been caused by a bad
or misspelled URL; following an invalid link; or your network connection
and/or transient conditions on the Internet. To check the URL, choose the
Home Page on the Properties dialog.

This sounds more like an IE message than an Outlook message. I cannot find
a Properties tab in Outlook.

Remember this popup comes up immediately upon loading. When the popup is
displayed, the preview pane is blank but in the background is the previous
Inbox display. Once I click OK, then Outlook loads the preview pane and
starts to download my mail messages.

Hope this helps.

I believe the error means to check the homepage on the properties dialogue
for IE. That would mean to right-click on the IE icon on your desktop and
scroll to properties.
