Weather for desktop?

Isn't there a way to get a weather applet on the WinXP desktop without
having to run something like DesktopX or similar? It seems the
promise of an ActiveX desktop died away with IE4?

I use Weather Pulse from http://www.tropicdesigns.net/software.html (free) THH.

Active desktop is on by default in XP.

Thanks for the link...this looks neat but its a taskbar program which
opens to an explorer window...aren't there any active desktop applets
that just sit on the desktop unwindowed and keep refreshing the
weather?

Take a look at www.wincustomize.com. However you need DesktopX to make them work. ObjectDesktop is a great value, look at www.stardock.com.

I do believe that the weather channel has something www.weather.com.

Make sure to run Adaware/Spybot after installing that - if you do.

You might want to try DesktopX 2.1 (I know you don't want to run DesktopX
but bear with me). The reason I say that is because with DesktopX 2.1 you
can now run WIDGETS instead of DesktopX. It just uses the DesktopX DLLs as
their run-time. So you don't have to have DesktopX running anymore.

Here's a screenshot of one:
http://skins4.wincustomize.com/SSGOKU/widgets/FM-Weather.jpg

These are actual .EXE's and not just DesktopX object packs.

Here's the link to that:
http://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=34&SkinID=15

You can download DesktopX 2.1 at http://www.desktopx.net

Hope this helps.
