warning, IE is STILL broken in latest hotfix MS04-004 / KB832894

It's pretty well known that scrolling is broken in the version of
mshtml.dll
which shipped as part of MS03-048 / KB824145 in November:

Like a lot of people, I circumvented the problem by backing off to the
prior version of mshtml, waiting to see if the next release of mshtml
would be fixed.

The good the latest fix seems to fix the scrolling problem.

The bad the latest fix is broken in new ways.
Example:
Because of vision problems, my IE settings are set to
General => Colors => background=grey, don't use Windows colors,
and
General => Accessibility => Ignore colors specified on web pages.

After the latest fix (MS04-004 / KB832894), these settings are
ignored.
I confirmed this by uninstalling and re-installing the fix several
times,
and this bug is consistent and reproducible.
The bug disappears when I revert to the pre-November mshtml.

This update screwed up my web surfing. Half the sites I cant get too. Is
there a way to uninstall this or get rid of the dll file? I dont see this
hotfix listed in Add/Remove programs

Confirmed here too. It's quite an odd affect here, it seems to implement
some of the expected results of the settings you mention. Let me see if I
can find out what is going on.

As a work-around, have you considered telling it to format using your own
CSS sheet? I'm betting / guessing that *will* work.

It appears to have fixed (or unbroken) scrolling here too.
The bad the latest fix is broken in new ways.
Example:

I see "Colors" as broken, but "Accessibility" not. Of course, "Ignore colors"
is badly crippled, without being able to specify the color.

Every thing works properly on both my 98SE and XP Pro machines after updating.
MSHTML version on both are 6.0.2800.1400

I've had none of the problems you described, and I use IE on 3 different
desktops and 1 laptop - running both XP and W98SE.

Seems to affect some people and not others so there is obviously another
variable. I have managed to repro it on some test machines and not others.

Ok, it appears to affect some setups and not others from what I can see.
But, its definately there. I think you'll see a fix "soon" but not sure
when.

I started experiencing script errors after applying 824145; the latest
patch, 832894, does NOT fix the problem. The errors involve invalid objects
(eg MOL.length).
Using IE 5.01 with all patches, W2K SP4.

Well its strange for me as I am usually one of the first people to have
problems as I have a Sony laptop and Compaq Desktop and both are famous for
being on the touchy side about changes.

I have not had any problems with the update and I am running 98SE with IE
6SP1. I wonder if people are having problems because they are loading this
update on older editions of Internet Explorer?

Yer lucky. I suspect its more to do with order and selection of patches and
the like, rather than the initial load. But thats an educated guess at best.

Scrolling & Accessibility are fine. "Internet Options, Colors" works
too, but only for HTML documents.

(a) "START, Help" shows them immediately. (Right pane only.)
(b) So will an Explorer window in "View as WEB page". (Left half only.)
(c) To see your colors at an URL, you must also "Internet Options,
Accessibility", & "Ignore colors specified...".

Everything is fine, just fine & dandy with Q832894!

Just comfirming this. 824145 broke several javascript. I think the problem
is there for most versions of Windows and IE. The problem is not fixed with
832894.
