WARNING: Do not reinstall Office Beta -- Visit Next? (Activation Servers Taken Offline)

**__MIke__**

It seems that the activation servers for Office 2007 Beta have been taken
offline permanently.

http://www.officehelp.in/showthread.php?t=1242407

I did a format and reinstall of Vista last night and now I can't activate my
Office Beta. I'm not sure if this is normal for MS betas or not, but I sure
which I had made an image of my last Vista install before formatting. I was
planning on using the beta for awhile after Office 2007's official release,
but now I can only restart it around 40 more times before it expires
(bummer!)

I wonder if it will happen with the Vista beta activation servers too . . .
if so, be careful about doing a new Vista install without an image of the
old one.

Hope this helps someone avoid my situation

Just went there"

Jeff,

You just went where? what are you saying "Not" to?

I just tried to activate again and still get an error. Anyone else who can
confirm (or deny) the activation problem.

Mike,
Oops, that was a reply to another thread. Sorry.
The one I started about the same issue;and someone said that they've took
the beta site off-line.
Here's my post-and KJP's response-sorry, got them confused.

Jeff

I think it is because The Microsoft Office 2007 Private Beta is supposed to
be over now, and they are De-Activating not only Microsoft Beta Place, but
also the Microsoft Office 2007 Beta Download and Activation Servers, and
well as the Microsoft Office 2007 Private Beta Newsgroups.

may not agree;but; at least get a response)

Anyone have any info; about;
#1 - Office 2007 activation servers being down? After reinstalling
5744;and Office 2007; Office activation times out-connection error.
Been going on for 2 days.

#2 Seems the ng servers are taking hits too; had threads I was following;
and now after being away for awhile; they've all disapeared.
(No Chad; not me being censored--LOL-- at least I think) LOL

Any info? from anyone?

Reduced functionality;through no fault of your own.
It's happening in Office 2007 as I type; so whatcha think will happen with
SPP and Vista?

UPDATE

Straight from Bob-an Office MVP- who responded to my inquiry in the office
ng.

"Hi Jeff,

Basically, the beta product activation server has had several outages during
the course of the Office 2007 Beta 2
run, and it seems like they always occur near or on a weekend <g>.

MS is and has been working on resolving the issue. Normally the activation
is a separate group than the 'phone support' ones, and
activation by phone isn't supported for either beta products or for trial
products so it can be, as you're aware, a bit frustrating
when the only path to resolution is a bit broken.I hope this helped you,"

Thanks for the info, Jeff. I've got to admit, even though the betas were
*free* I was actually somewhat upset (gasp!) that I wasn't gonna' be able to
use them until they expired because the activation servers were shut off.

It's good to know I just have to wait for them to be fixed.

progressive realization

MS screwed up again...

first msn messenger network was offline
then foldershare.com offline (after ms bought it)
now the activation sites.....

its seems that MS should use ONLY linux servers...

Hey,
same problem here....
I had to reformat and go back to RC1 due to sleep and no Internet connection
.....
Now I can't get the office beta to activate.

You are lucky. I tried and instead of the server down message, I got a
communication error. I have been trying for a week and am running out of
available uses before it shuts down
