Want to be administrator

I purchased a sony viao from circuit city about 1 year ago (it was a display
model). It was set up with user account status, so now I can't do anything to
maintain my computer. It won't let me defrag or even install anti-virus
software, keeps telling me I need to be an administrator. I talked to the
guys at circuit city about a way to get past this, they don't seem to know.
So how do I become admin. ???

Logon as Administrator and set your account as Administrator.

At the log-in screen, press Ctrl/Alt/Del twice quickly
Type "Administrator" and leave password blank.

If this won't work, you can attempt a REPAIR installation of XP which will
setup the administrator account with a password of your choosing: don't
forget to write it down. DId you get the Installation CDs when you bought
the Sony: if not run back and demand that they supply these [it's part of the
Microsoft Licence Agreement that they supply the source media with a PC that
has a working XP Operating SYstem]. If not demand that they provide you a
Full Retail Copy. If they refuse call Microsoft as they are in technical
breach of the sales contract.
