Wacky Calender and Folder problems Outlook 0ffice XP

Calender won't accept new items or delete, or kill reminders. E mail won't
download off of server. Can't move email to any other folders. Will not send
outbox items to sent items, thus keeps sending already sent mail. Won't
delete anything. Seems like it's got a bug but Norton will not find
anything.

Not just my computer but also I just learned my Office Manager had the same
problem and had to switch to Outlook Express

I use my calender and contacts extensively, I am running XP Office 2002 and
get all the normal updates at least weekly. Problems just started this week
for me but a month ago for Office Manager

I ran detect and repair within Outlook and also off the original
installation disks with no success

Are you using a PST? It's possible the PST has errors in it or has perhaps
reached its maximum size.
Please locate the PST file and determine its size. If it's larger than 1.6
GB you should create another one and drag items to it. If that's not the
case, it may have errors.
Search for scanpst.exe. Close Outlook. Double-click scanpst.exe and follow
the instructions. If it finds errors and repairs them, run it again. Repeat
until no further errors are found. Open Outlook and let me know what happens.
If you still have reminder errors after that, open Outlook with the
/cleanreminders switch: Start > Run > outlook.exe /cleanreminders <enter>.
Good luck and keep me posted.

The only recent PST is a backup I created last week when this problem
started, but it contains 1.6GB. I found it using windows search "*.pst" As
far as I know I only use the PST when I make a backup of all my stuff in
Outlook

your suggestion makes sense and I suspected ther was a overflow problem. I
previously tried deleting some older folders to make some space but it didn't
seen to make any difference to the operational problems.

I'll try your suggestions and see if I can make it work

Thanks

If you are not using a PST on a daily basis and only use it to back up data
to, then you're connecting to an Exchange server? This is the Microsoft mail
server that is used in a business environment.

I finally found the "outlook.PST" file and ran the "scanpst.exe" with no
errors, however the file is 1.9 gigs and this does not correct the problem.

I think I should now try creating another PST file but I do not understand
about dragging items to it. Should I do this in Outlook by, say creating a
new "personal files" pst folder and drag, like my calander and contacts to
it, all in outlook OR are you suggesting something else

You're being very helpful so far (at least I believe I understand the
problem) and I appreciate your efforts Thanks

You're too close to the maximum size. This should help:

You can do it from inside Outlook. Create a new PST with File>New>Outlook
Data File. Make that new PST the delivery location on Tools>E-mail
Accounts>Next. Stop and restart Outlook, Then open each default folder in
the old PST, select all the items in it with CTRL-A, then either right-click
and drag the selection to the corresponding folder in the main PST (choosing
Copy or Move when you release the mouse button) or click Edit>Copy (or Move)
to FOlder, specifying the corresponding default folder as the destination.
FOr the Calendar, you'll have to switch the source to a table view like By
Category in order for CTRL-A to work. When you're done, right-click the
root of the old PST and choose Close.

You all have been an excellent resource. I finally got everthing up and
running properly. As a recap I created a new PST file and moved several
years of inbox items to it (almost a Gig). THat got me up and running but the
original Outlook PST size remainet at about 1.9 Gb, so I compacted it and
everthing is great. Now I'm the resource for everybody around here that
Outlook wigging on them.

BIG THANK YOU from Arizona
