Hi all!

This is slightly offtopic, but you guys are usually a knowledgeable
bunch.

Is there anybody out there who knows what registry-settings has to be
changed to allow W98se to run on a box with more than 512MB RAM?
I have a machine as follows:
MoBo: ASUS A7n8X (non DeLuxe)
CPU: Athlon XP2500+ Barton
RAM: 2x512MB(1GB) Twinmos PC3200
GrCard: Hercules Radeon9000 Pro
OS: XP sp1, eCS1.1, RH 8.0
Currently running XP sp1, but it's too damn ugly.
I mean; One has had to learn, over time, to circumvent most of the flaws
in the "Chicago"(W95->) UI, and I simply refuse to invest time in
learning yet another clunky awkward UI that Redmond is trying to force
on me.
Therefore I thought I'd run '98 on it 'til I find my W2k-disc again (I'm
moving and don't really have the time to look for it)

TIA /Ola J

WinME like all Win9x OS's can use up to 2GB of RAM. When more than 512MB of RAM
is installed on a system using a Win9x OS it is necessary to limit the size of
the virtual cache.

To limit 'vcache', edit system.ini and add the lines

[VCache]
MaxFileCache=512000

Note that this will still mean that all memory is available to applications but
is simply limiting the amount used as virtual cache memory.

Actually, as long as it is less than the value -- it does the job.
