W2K SP4 Pop Up Hell

Z

Zak

Hello
I have a friend who loaded SP4 on their computer and ever
since they have been getting literally hundreds of pop
up's (mostly pornographic) and can only get them to stop
by turning off her computer. Before loading SP4 her
computer was working great and w/ no problems at all.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks
Zak

It should be noted that MESSENGER Service can be Stopped and Disabled
manually through the OS interfaces and that it is wise to lock-down
your firewall for the affected ports as well.

GO 2

ControlPanel|Administrative Tools|Computer Management|Services and
Applications|Services. In the right panel there will be alphabetized
list of the processes, some started, some not. Find "Messenger". If it
is started, double click on it and hit "Stop" button. Also, right above
that, under "Startup type", select "Disabled".
