W2K + scanjet 3670 = frustration

Hi all, I'm out of good ideas on this one. I've added a HP
scanjet 3670 to our network (W2K domain, W2K SP4
workstations, AD, Group Policy, etc).

The scanner works well enough, except one of the
applications continues to give me a Run Time error on
every attempt to start the app (the error code
is "abnormal program termination"). Unfortunately, its the
one app that we really want to use (the HP Director) - it
provides one touch scanning and copying.

Now, here's where it starts getting weird - the app runs
fine when logged onto the computer locally (as opposed to
logging onto the domain). It will also run fine if
alternate credentials are given for a local account (the
local admin account, for example). I thought about using
this approach, but all of my printers are domain-based
resources and are unavailable to local accounts.

I don't think that I have anything set in Group Policy
that would prevent this app from running, and I've tried
using the domain admin account without success. Has anyone
else run into this problem or have any suggestions - my
next step is sending the scanner back and trying a
different one.

Thanks as always

It sounds to me like a permissions problem. How were you
logged in when you installed the software? Maybe the
domain account doesn't have access to the documents and
settings folder where the software stuffed some setup
files. If this is it you can overcome it several ways.
1. Give everyone full control over the folder where the
files are at.
2. Copy the files into the document and settings of the
domain account.
3. Give the domain account administrator or power user
rights to the local machine.

I thought it might be a permissions problem - set the HP
folder in the Program Files folder to Full Control for
Authenticated Users - no deal (even tried Everyone w/o
success).

I installed the software (about 10 different times) both
as a domain user and as a local user - no changes; it
fails when trying to use it when logged onto the domain.

I will check on the permissions for the Documents and
Settings folder; maybe there's something that I can do
with that....thanks.
