W2K boot freezes

Yesterday: When shutting down last nite, I got a dialog
box telling me that I wasn't authorized to shut the
computer down. I went into <control-alt-delete> to shut
down.
Today: After turning the computer on, it starts to boot-
up: it "posts," and then begins to load Windows 2000
Professional. The screen goes to the blue (behind my
program icons) of my desktop. After this...NOTHING
happens...no icons, no loading of any programs. <control-
alt-delete> does nothing. Help!

BTW, all users have full access; I never set it up with
the separate users having separate access.

This may be caused by a corrupted user profile. Try logging in with another
user account or the Administrator account. If this is successful, backup any
documents and settings needed, and delete the corrupt profile. It will
automatically be recreated the next time the original account logs back in.

Tim, thanks for the quick reply.

Unfortunately, while Windows 2k is loading, it just stops
loading, before I get the screen with the start button.
No operator bar appears across the bottom of the screen,
and no program icons. The only thing that's on the
monitor-screen is the light blue color that used to appear
on my "desktop."

CAN ANYONE ELSE HELP?
In safe mode, I get a blk screen, with "safe mode" in each
corner, but no other text or command options.
