W2K and Citrix

we are trying to see what kind of box we should get
running windows 2000 srv, with Citrix.
We are going from 20 PC anywhere machines.
How good is Citrix under W2K?
I know will depend on how many apps we will run under the
W2K/Citrix box i think it's about 6 apps.
any specs out there?
also will a bandwith formula help too?

It may well be worth considering Windows Terminal Services before
delving into Citrix. They're both based on the same technology
(Microsoft licenses technology from Citrix) but Terminal Services is
supplied free with Windows 2000 Server, you just need to purchase
client licenses.

Dude... terminal services are not free. You get 60 days to add client
licenses. If you dont add them, the service tanks. You cant even use TS for
remote admin.

Plus, TS and Citrix Metraframe are really different beasts.

TS is a complete remote desktop. This can be useful for things like a
thin-client environment.
Metaframe is an application publishing platform. Rather than a whole
desktop, you get specific applications.
The hell of citrix is that is is much more expensive:
TS Client liceses are required.
Citrix software is required
Citrix Client licenses are require...

its very pricey. But, if you want to securely publish an internal client
server app over the internet, you have to pay the price and go with a citrix
solution.

I have been building them for years...

The short answer would be:
= (2) 2.0GHz Xeons (hyperthread if you want to)
2 GB Ram
Internal Raid Storage
Backups

The long answer has to do with what you are trying to achieve. Do you want
to go thin client, or publish specific applications to desktops on the
network ?

The spec's of the ICA client can be found on the Citrix website. This will
tell you what the bandwidth requirements are, etc etc...

In my opinion, an HPaq DL580 G2 would be perfect for 20 users.
