W XP Pro peer to peer networking.

I am trying to troubleshoot problems in a local school. They have a mix
of W98 and WXP PCs accesing a 'file server', which is actually a peer to
peer PC.
There are a lot of problems accessing folders on the 'server'. Does
anyone knopw if there is a limit on the number of concurrent connections
an XP box will allow?
