W-Mail stopped sending mail tonight

I had Vista service pack 1 installed today by tech support, but I don't know
if that matters.
Tonight, my ability to send messages was intermittant, now I cannot send
any. No problem receiving email. Error message:
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'Sending Test', Account: 'pop-server.stny.rr.com',
Server: 'smtp-server.stny.rr.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No,
Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

Thank you in advance for any ideas on how to fix this.

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled. The latest version of Trend's
anti-virus seems to be causing problems too.

Thank you. This makes a great deal of sense. Tech support also loaded new
version of Norton.

Will Kaspersky work with Windows Mail?

Thank you, Richard, for your suggestion. TimeWarner/RoadRunner asks us to be
sure authentication is not checked. I suspect this is because we have dynamic
IPs. I wish I knew more about the technical workings of email.

Hi, Sstone. I can assume you're from Canada too. Pop is part of the
in-coming e-mail server name, Smtp is part of the out-going e-mail
server name, e.g. mine is pop.cogeco.ca and smtp.cogeco.ca respectively.
This is your internet provider matter.Call them, they'll take care of
that. It's out of the boundary of this forum. Good luck.

David, thank you for your reply. I worked with ISP tech support first,
TimeWarner/Roadrunner in NY.
Both servers checked out fine and my email works in ISP's webmail. Problem
was only in Windows Mail, which is the program I prefer to use.
Frank's reply makes me suspect anti-virus is causing a conflict.

We haven't seen reports of problems in Windows Mail caused by
Kaspersky. Of course, that could also mean there aren't enough
Kaspersky users to have encountered such problems yet. As
with most antivirus programs, leaving the email scanning turned
off if you have such an option could help.

It's not a good idea to have two antivirus programs installed at
once, even if you only tell one of them to run, so uninstall
the Norton program first. You may also need to run this
cleanup program to take care of what the uninstall left behind:

<http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039>

You may even need to remove your email account under Windows
Mail, then restart Windows Mail and add the account again.
