I keep getting this window pop up when I hook to the internet saying I may
have a vulnerability on my system, it then tells me to go to update to find
the patch to correct this, only problem is when I do that there are no
updates needed. Can anyone tell me how I could correct this.

Angie;
Your vague description makes it hard to determine exactly what is going on
but it does not sound like a Microsoft or Windows notice.

Have you ran an updated virus scan lately?
Have you checked for spyware lately?
Is your firewall enabled?
re you sure you have ALL Critical Windows Updates?

Sounds more like some malware is trying to get your attention and trick you
into something. You should check your system for spyware (using eg MS
Antispyware) and malware (using antivirus program, Avast 4 Home is free). It
might be a valid notice is you have some security program installed. In that
(and any :)) case, it would be best if you could post what exactly is the
message saying, even what's the name of the window (in the blue bar)

I have a fully functional antivirus program with spyware and firewall
protection, I also run Adware regularily, so I have no idea what this could
be. I have emailed my antivirus program to see if they can help also.

Well in that case. The mentioned vulnerability relates to Netware services.
Are you using Netware client to access resources on Novell servers/tress? If
not, then the service should not be installed as it is not by default. If you
do, then apply tha patch if you didn't already >>
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS05-046.mspx. If the
message pops up again let us know what application is casuing it to popup.

You still are not specific.
EXACTLY what is the message?
What type of pop up?
What is at the top of the pop up?

Ok, what I get is a window comes up from My panda program saying my computer
has a vulnerability and gives the number MS05-046 and then says to find a
patch to delete the vulnerability I am to go to windows update. So I do that
but there is nothing there to update that I can find. I have sent an email
to panda now also to see if they can rectifiy the problem.

Good. Now we know where that the message comes from and that the source is
genuine. The update shouldn't show on WU because rather dated and most likely
already pplied on your computer. Use the link I posted previosly to install
the update manually if you just wish to make sure. Nevertheless, you
shouldn't be affected by that vulnerability if you're not using Netware.

Dear Angie,

also I had this problem. My Panda antivirus program notice me, I have
vulnerability named MS05-046. Microsoft update site has talked to me I
needn´t to update my Windows XP system.
But this isn´t so. I have needed the file KB899489:
According to the problem status, I would like to suggest you download patch
MS05-046(KB899589) manually from the following webpage and install it on the
computer:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...16-99E7-4701-A3F8-65B803B8B881&displaylang=en

Please, you have to update file in the same language as you have operation
system - this is neccesary and necessitiy. Prior file is in English.)

Best regards, Robert, Krško, Slovenia
