VPN users can't access DFS files

Eric

We have a VPN connecting our LA office to our Chicago
office. Chicago has a W2K domain w/AD, LA has an NT 4.0
mixed domain w/o AD installed. Users in LA can see the
root DFS folder, but no subfolders. Permissions are all
set correctly.

Any ideas why these users can see and access everything
but DFS folders?

I think that I'm seeing the problem. The LA users don't
have Active Directory running. I can log in to an LA
machine using my Chicago user account, which then
authenticates with Chicago (and AD) and lets me see the
DFS folders. However, if I log into the LA domain, even
with an administrative account I can't see the DFS shares.
But I can use any LA account to browse directly to the
network share.

Now I'm thinking that I will have to put AD in LA in order
for them to use and see DFS. Am I on the right track with
this?

Hi,
If you could answer the following questions, we can
understand your problem better.
Does the same domain span between LA and Chicago?
or you have having different domains in each places?
What kind of DFS root are you trying to access: Standalone or Domainbased?
if you have 2 domains do you have trust relationship setup?
what is the client OS?

Thanks
