VPN, local network and peer-to-peer

Laurent

I've setup a VPN for my wife between her computer at work and our home
network. Home network has three computers, all with WinXP Pro, and one
sharing ICS to the other ("server" in peer-to-peer). Work computer is also
WinXP Pro, with DynDNS Dynamic IP. VPN works but I would like to improve.
The problem is as this:

1) when she connects from the computer having ICS, all others users on the
home network are cut off from Internet access.

2) when she connects from another computer on the home network (laptop),
Internet is accessible by others, but then she can't see local network.

It's either one problem or another.

Is it possible with only WinXP Pro installations to have the best of all
world at the same time ? More specifically that :

a) when she connects to VPN from the server computer, Internet is still
shared to others

and

b) when she connects to VPN from client computer on the home network, she
can access also local LAN at the same time

Can't access the Internet while using VPN

Symptom: after establishing a VPN connection, you may not be able to access
the Internet because the VPN takes over your existing connection and all
traffic to use the VPN default gateway on the remote network. The remote
network may not allow VPN clients to access the Internet via their gateway.

Resolutions:
1) If you don't need to access the entire VPN resources, disable the "use
default gateway on remote network" option in the properties of the VPN
connection. To do that, go to VPN
Connection->Properties->Network->TCP/IP->Properties->Advanced-, uncheck
"Use default gateway on Remote Network".
2) Edit route table manually if you know how to or check routing page on
this web site.

Ok. It shows the direction were I must go. I know *nothing* about routing,
so I guess I have to spend some time learning the basics before being able
to solve the issue, but that's a start.

Thanks
