VPN L2TP connection between two XP clients

Does anyone know how to set up a L2TP VPN connection between two Windows XP
computers. PPTP does work, but gives to many problems over two NAT / FW
connections using Alcatel Speedtouch 510 devices.

I'm currently receiving several error's like 789 or 781 when connecting to
the VPN server.
Unfortunately there not much to configure on the server side (incoming
connections). Does anyone knows how to install a certificate on the server
side or add a pre-shared key.
I'm wondering if it is even possible to create such a connection!

Any help is deeply appreciated

The NAT devices will have to allow UDP 500 / 4500 for IKE negotiation and
UDP 1701 for L2TP itself.
