VPN error 709

When prompted for password changes at logon, during the
start of a VPN session, I get a 709 error "there was an
error changing the password on the domain". It happens on a
XP or 2000 clients. The VPN server is 2000. I cannot find
any solutions. Any suggestions? Thanks in Advance!
