Maybe, you need to read the information in the link, as it talks about
possible solutions for Vista and VPN with a VPN server. Google is your
friend.

Go to Start > Help and Support and in the Search Help
box type: VPN and press the Enter key. Then
click on the topic titled "Set up a remote connection to
your workplace using VPN".

I only messed around with VPN back into 2001 when I had to tunnel into the
company's VPN network. That was a total nightmare, but I got the router to
work with VPN. It took me a week or more to actually just stumble upon the
solution.

If you suspect that it is a FW issue that is preventing the client from
connecting to the server, then I suggest you post to comp.security.firewalls
where there may be someone there that can help you with your FW
configuration. There are server people there as well that might be able to
help you with your server. What kind of FW do you have? If you post to them
with some kind of toy personal FW solution, you might get ripped a part.
What do you have as a FW solution?

What is the server O/S?

What VPN solution is on the server? Can you not call or make contact with
the VPN vendor for support?

You might want to make a post to MS.Windows.vista.networking_sharing too to
see if you can get support.

If your ISP doesn't provide a newsgroup service, then it might be tuff for
you to get to the NG. You might be able to use a free NG service that will
allow you to post and reply.
i'm using cisco 506e firewall & Win2003 SBS server.

If you can get there to the NG, then it does have people there that might be
able to assist you.
