VPN and ip address

I setup VPN radius on my Win2000 server sp4 and my client is using Win
Xp connect to it. In my win2k server i assign static ip pooling for my
client but client only can use dynamic ip assignment
then it works, if it use static ip then it would have error like "error
735 tcpcp cp error
message. Network protocol was not negotiated" ... should be some
message like that. Anyone pls advise why is that ? Thanks

There is an option in there somewhere (on the server) to "allow client to
specify it's own IP Address" or something close to that. I don't remember
exactly where it is, you'll have to poke around a bit.

Do you mean static ip ? in the rras console, it allows either dhcp or
specify a pool of static ip. I selected the static ip assignment but in
my client i can only use dynamic ip from server. Do you mean even
server i select static ip, client itself will get a different ip from
server ?

There are three possibe ways for clients to get an IP address. From the
regular DHCP pool, from a specified static pool outside the regular DHCP
scope, and statically (that is, configured statically on the client, not the
server). Which one do you want to work?

I did configure static pool from server to assign to client. But my
client has to set to dynamic ip, if i select static ip from server it
wont work. I didnt configure static ip at my client, i just let it auto
detect form server to get an ip address within the static pool.

That's just how it's supposed to work. If you tell the server to allow the
client to specify it's own IP address, then you must configure a static IP
on the client. With any other configuration, the client has to be set to get
it's IP address automatically.

Hi, what i mean is server configured static pool of ip but client has
to use dynamic ip assignment function in order to work. So it would be
like conflict between the two party.
