Volume Control

I have a laptop, so I have the volume controls on my
keyboard. When I used to adjust the volume via the
keyboard, an image used to pop up with a speaker that
showed the volume level going up or down. I have the
speaker visible on the taskbar, but this image no longer
pops up. Is there anything I can do?
