volume control won't install missing SndVol32 filess

Going crazy here...I have no volume control available. My soundcard is
Creative Labs soundblaster. Apparently I am missing the volume control system
files.
Windows says I need to install sndvol32.exe by going to the control panel
add programs, but it is not available there under accessories or elsewhere. I
found it on the XP cd as sndvol32.ex_ but I do not know where to copy the
file to in order to use it. I have the latest .net framework update
installed, so the cd won't even let me do a reinstall over the top, saying my
version of windows is newer than the one on the cd.
Ok, there are two files on the cd, the above mentioned sndvol32.ex_ and a
second one named sndvol32.hl. Do I need to copy both these files someplace?
or is there another solution? You may also contact me directly at
(e-mail address removed) if you wish.
Thanks for the help.

Simply copy the sndvol32.exe file from the CD and paste into the
C:\Windows\System32 Folder. If you have a soundblaster card you may have
to reinstall the drivers for that also. The drivers and software should be
on a Cd that
came with the Card.

Sometimes a simple system restore is needed to go back a day or so.
Somehow your registry may be messed up if the environment can't find
the file it does not mean it is not there.

Many thanks, Rich. I did as you suggested and now have volume control.
However, what about the sndvol32.hl file? Do you have any idea of its purpose?

Thanks for the advice. I neglected to mention that system restore was run
without success. Curious to know that the file might be there even though a
search didn't find it...anyway, Rich fixed it. I just wanted you to know that
your contribution was appreciated.

No problem the registry is the environment for the os if the os can't
find it then it thinks it's missing.

The sndvol32.hl_ file is probably a help file. Look in C:\Windows\Help
for the completed ext file sndvol32.hlp. If there
then not to worry about the hl_ file. If not then try completing the ext
to hlp and adding to the Help folder.
