volume control on task bar

Can you fix the volume control on task bar?

WinXP Home SP2

Every time I reboot, I have to go to control panel and replace check mark
to place volume control on task bar. But when I get there, the check mark is
already there. I have to remove it and reinsert it for it to show up in the
systray. It will stay there until the next I shut down and restart.

Is there a solution to this?

After you check "Place Volume Control on Task Bar", click Apply then OK out.
Reboot to set and save the new settings.

See if disabling the SSDP Discovery Service and Universal Plug and Play Device Host service help. For more information, check the following articles.
