vobid.sys error message during re-install

I am trying to re-install xp home on my machine due to a
problem I am having, and during the installing windows
section of the process, the computer crashes, and a blue
background error message appears. The message says that
Vobid.sys has caused a problem. "file not unloaded before
pending operations completed". This is a real problem as
I cannot stop the setup process, and I keep getting this
message everytime. I cannot get into windows either
normally or in safe mode and really need some help.

The problem is some goofy virtual CD driver that Pinnacle Instant CD/DV
version 8.0 installs. It seems you can't do an inplace upgrade whe
that junk is installed. You need to punt and get a bootable Window
XP cd and pave over the top of your original Windows install. You'l
need to reinstall all your apps, but at least you'll have your syste
back. I couldn't figure out a way to abort the setup process and jus
go in and uninstall Pinnacle. If someone knows a hack to do so the
should post it here.

This worked for me, give it a try.

While Win XP Pro is the ¡§devices¡¨ install phase, press the key comb
of SHIFT+F10 to start a command session.

A window will open with the command prompt.

Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\devices

Delete the file ¡§vobid.sys¡¨

Then allow the system to restart the upgrade and you¡¦re done!

I thank Ann, aka goddez1 very much for the above information. Saved m
A**, now I have to go and back up my system files before I do anythin
else ļ
