So why is it so much in cost ? , if it offers security then why doesn't the
home edition offer any ? , i would like to purchase vista but my hard ware is
not compatible
well not with the ultimate anyways , why is it split up into different
groups ? can you have multiple desktops ? What does this have to offer me
that I cant get from a linux distribution ? I just want something that works
not political garbage from either side.

Hi Arthur,
So why is it so much in cost ?

That debate can get rather lengthy. The short version is that this is the
pricing scheme that Microsoft has decided on.
if it offers security then why doesn't the home edition offer any ?

All versions offer the same level of security. The differences are in the
features and use design (Home vs Office, Workstation vs Multimedia, etc.).
i would like to purchase vista but my hard ware is not compatible well not
with the ultimate anyways , why is it split up into different groups ?

If it's not compatible with Ultimate, then it's not compatible with any
version. Hardware requirements do not vary (except for the starter edition,
and that is only available to selected countries).
can you have multiple desktops ?

Not at this point, no.
What does this have to offer me that I cant get from a linux distribution
?

Compatibility with applications designed for Windows.
I just want something that works not political garbage from either side.

Not a problem by me, but your very first question is one that is hotly
debated and subject to a lot of opinion.
