Vista x64 stops responding on hibernation or hybrid sleep

Dear all,

can anyone assist with my hiberate issue? I run Vista x64 on an Acer Aspire
5020.

For a while everything seemed ok with hibernation but now it no longer works
reliably and I don't know what exactly has changed.
The problem is 90% of the times the notebook only turns of the screen, the
HD light stays on and it stops responding. I have to turn off power. The
proper behaviour would be to blink the power LED and then to turn itself of.
I can't find any related errors in the event logs.

Any hint would be greatly appreciated.
I suspect that it started with a recent update of the Broadcomm wireless
driver supplied by Windows update but that 's just a feeling. I don't know
how to reinstall this driver without reusing the MS one since Broadcomm
doesn't offer drivers on their website.

Rich.

Go into control panel, device manager, and find your Broadcom wireless
device. Double click the device to pull up it's properties window, select
the power management tab. Place a check in the box to allow the computer to
turn it off.

Rich, thanks for the hint but this box was checked by default.

I fixed the problem by going back to the previous driver 4.86... The one
supplied via Windows Update is 4.102..... and causes this error reproducably.

I wrote to Broadcom about it and the only reply I got was to address the
manufacturer since they don't wanna do end user support. Doesn't that suck?
They provide a crappy driver via Windows Update to the world and then they
don't want to fix the bugs.
