Vista won't boot

P

Phillip_Ammar

I started Vista after installing software and found out it would not
boot up. I ran the startup repair in the recovery disk and it has given
me the following information:

Problem Signature

Problem Event Name Startup/RepairV2

Problem Signature 01 ExternalMedia
Problem Signature 02 6.0.6000.1686.6.0.6000.16386
Problem Signature 03 6
Problem Signature 04 327685
Problem Signature 05 NoBootFailure
Problem Signature 06 BadDriver
Problem Signature 07 0
Problem Signature 08 3
Problem Signature 09 WrpRepair
Problem Signature 10 2

OS Version 6.0.6.000.2.0.0.256.1

I've googled extensively but can find no solid advice as to what is
doing here. Can anyone make sense of this? Any help appreciated.
Thanks

Environment to troubleshoot and repair startup issues in Windows Vista

I do thank you for your advice here. I did encounter this tute in m
searches and ran through the suggestions though I don't think m
problem is related to the:

• master boot record (MBR)
• boot sector or
• Boot Configuration Data (BCD) store issues

I think it's a driver issue. I ran the command lines suggested to n
avail to make sure. I'm certain the answer lies in the informatio
contained in the "problem signature information" above that wa
generated by the vista recovery disc. I was hoping some vista guru
might be able to decipher for me exactly what that diagnosis i
pointing to.

I'm doing this for a friend who did not follow my bottom line advi
with PC's; clone the drive with an image program so a restoration o
the drive is only an UBD4WIN with a loaded image program away.

Thanks again.

1. Have you friend disconnect all peripherals and try again. If the computer
boots into Windows, have him uninstall whatever it was you or he installed.

2. If the machine will not boot into Windows, with all peripherals
disconnected have your friend boot with the Vista DVD. Have him do a System
Restore to before you or he installed the Mystery Program.

Thanks for your time here Malke. Laptop won't boot. I downloaded an iso
of the vista recovery disc which came up with the response that problem
could not be fixed via recovery disc. It is that recovery disc which
gave me the information I posted initially. Like most hp laptops it
came with an installed OEM copy with the onus on the buyer to make a
full set of discs from the recovery partition.

My friend did not; set a restore point at any stage since the machines
purchase or make recovery disks from the recovery partition. I've been
able to boot it up with the ultimate boot disc for window and backup
his important stuff, my docs and outlook to an external medium. That
boot disc is every aspiring techies savior and I urge all of you to
check it out. You must have a legitimate ms disc to make it and there
is nothing illegal about it.

I'm done with this one and he's now done a fresh vista install with
discs that came are in the arabic language. He can read it!

Thanks for trying guys and I will check out those links as part of my
learning curve. I'm no guru with the ultimate boot disc for win but
check it out as it allows you to look into all drives, recover or scan
an image from or to external medium whilst the machine is booted from
the ram.

Saved me a few times.

In this case your friend should have contacted HP tech support. They would
have sold him recovery disks for a nominal fee - around $25USD. Then if the
recovery disks would not work, he should have contact HP tech support for
repair/replacement. Frankly, IMO he should still do this.

MMM, I rang HP support as the machine was supposed to have been i
warranty (it wasn't). The techie I spoke to agreed that the recover
disk I sourced was a vista recovery disc. That however is not the sam
as the recovery disc that could have, and should have been made fro
the recovery partition.

This below, which I started this thread with, was generated by th
recovery disc.

Problem Event Name Startup/RepairV2

Problem Signature 01 ExternalMedia
Problem Signature 02 6.0.6000.1686.6.0.6000.16386
Problem Signature 03 6
Problem Signature 04 327685
Problem Signature 05 NoBootFailure
Problem Signature 06 BadDriver
Problem Signature 07 0
Problem Signature 08 3
Problem Signature 09 WrpRepair
Problem Signature 10 2

OS Version 6.0.6.000.2.0.0.256.1

Tech said if he wants to pull his chq book out, there is a possibility
of HP support making sense out of this error log. That was apparently
only a possibility and sending the machine back to HP was on the cards.
Big bucks for that. As I pulled all the important stuff off with the
UBD4WIN (boots off ram, hard drives and external media can be
accessed), outlook items, bookmarks, my docs were all saved. Did a
reload with vista and managed to get the drivers we needed from the net
and his machine is pretty much as it was.

Don't want to do it again but it's all a learning curve.

Thanks for trying
