Vista will not see 160 Gig Laptop drive

I had to purchase a new hard drive for my laptop when I upgraded to
VISTA Business. I purchased a 160 Gig Seagate. When I went to
install Vista it would only see 120 gigs of the drive. I thought it
was a BIOS issue and talked to Tier 2 tech support at ACER. They said
it was not a bios issue. When I go into the BIOS it sees the drive
and shows the part number and the serial number.

Last night I was in the Admin Tools - Computer Management - Disk
Management screen. On the upper left side of the screen is "More
Actions" I clicked on that and did a Rescan Disks. After the rescan
was finished I was able to see the Unallocated portion of the Disk
Drive. I wanted the hard drive to have only one partition and found I
could not span the disk. At that point I shut down the Computer
Management console and went searching the Internet for a disk
partition program.

When I came back to the Disk Management screen and performed a rescan
the Unallocated portion did not show up. I tried this many times and
rebooted the machine still can't get the Unallocated part of the disk
to show up again.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Many Thanks

That's strange. You could try BootIt NG from Terabyte Unlimited. They
offer a free, 30 day, full featured trial version. It can manage the
partitions non destructively. See if it can see the unallocated space and
add it to the current partition.

The disk is new. Vista can only see 120 Gig. There is no unallocated
portion.

I booted off of my Windows XP disk and it only sees 120 gig not 160.

Thanks
