vista will not format

I am using the windows vista premium edition, with Dell's Roxio Creator DE.
Neither one will format my cd. I am using Maxell DVD-RW Cds. I put the disc
in click on format it goes for a bit then the tray pops open saying either
there is no disc in it, or the old message I was getting was to us DVD-RW
Disc. I purchased that kind and still will not allow me to format, burn,
copy or even drag to disc. I am at a loss now.

If Roxio Creator DE came preinstalled on your Dell computer, this is likely
a very basic version that doesn't support all features. In other words,
it's just a very basic, meaning crippled, trial version. Because Roxio's
product usually takes over all burning functions, it's likely that's why the
built in Windows function won't handle it either though the disk could be a
format that can't be handled by the Windows burning function.
