Vista vs. W98

After installing the same app to both W98 and Vista, the results are:
......................................................................................................
W98

500mb installed memory

unused memory - 15mb (last)

Cache size
400mb (peak)
400mb (last)
.................................................................................................
Vista

2000mb installed memory

unused memory - 1600mb (last)

Cache size
350mb (peak)
75mb (last)
.......................................................................................................

First, notice that under W98 there was more cacheing (see peak) even though
there is less installed memory.

Second, notice that Vista shrunk the cache down to 75mb after the app was
installed. Under W98, there was no shrinking of the cache.

How can one increase cacheing under Vista and how can one stop cache
shrinking
under Vista?

Did you have superfetch disabled? I have superfetch enabled on 32 bit
Vista Ultimate with 2 GB and Task Manager reports 2046 MB total
physical memory, 1650 MB cached, and 56 MB free.

With superfetch disabled the numbers are 2046 MB total, 590 MB
cached, and 1057 MB free.
