Vista Version, Exchange & Outlook

Hi

What version of Vista do I require in order to be able to connect to
aan
Exchange server via Outlook 2003?

I recently purchased a laptop that came with Vista Home Premium
installed,
and I am wondering whether I need to upgrade to the Ultimate edition.
Is
domain access necessary to connect via Outlook?

When I set up the mail profile, it finds the mail server and user name
and
underlines them. When I try to start Outlook, it asks me for my
Exchange
username and password, then stops responding completely. Everything is
full
patched.

You should be able to connect to either an Exchange Server 2003 via RPC over
HTTPS or to an Exchange Server 2007 via Outlook Everywhere.

So, yes....You would need to have Outlook 2003 or Outlook 2007.

Not sure that the OS on the client is important! But not clear on that
point.

Firstly, ensure that you have instructed Outlook to use NT authentication.

There are a few things that can impact Outlook 2003's performance. If you
find Outlook is slow you may experience timeout issues when trying to connect
to the mail server.

There are *usually* three major possible causes to the problem:

Instant messenger. The fix is to disable the link to Instant Messenger on
Outlook's Tools, Options, Other tab.

Network connectivity issues when you are using mapped network drives,
including slow networks or inaccessible mapped drives. The fix is to uncheck
the box for the dialog to always ask whether to open/save the attachments or
disable mapped drives.

Alternative input support in Office 2003. This allows you to use speech or
handwriting instead of typing. Disable alternative input following
instructions in How to turn off the speech recognition and the handwriting
recognition features in Office 2003:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=823586

Other options are to archive, run disk checking tools like chkdsk, scandisk
and defrag. There is also the option of running detect and repair from the
help menu. If a PST is in use, run the inbox repair tool. Another step to try
is close Outlook, delete or rename the frmcache.dat, outcmd.dat, and .srs
files. Open Outlook which will then recreate them. If there is a desktop
search program installed, get rid of it.

Also, since you're in an Exchange environment, check troubleshooting steps

Well, it came to me just a moment ago....

Client OS has to be Windows XP Pro SP1 - at a minimum...

Are you really trying to connect to an Exchange (business mail) server or are
you a home user with POP3 access to an ISP mail server?

I am having the same problem. New install of Vista Ultimate on dell
dimension. Using 1and1.com's exchange.

After a few hours the account finally finished setting up... when the
reminders came up (have a ton.. they came up really slowly.. unlike in xp)
This is even happening when I choose offline.

This is driving me off the wall now... been on this the whole day....
