Vista Ultimate Upgrade Fails on First Startup:

I am on my 5th try installing Vista Ultimate. I have tried about everything
I have read here, but still can get this os to load.

The upgrade advisor says I am good to go. My machine is a Dell Dimension
4400 1.9 w 1gb ram. I had purchased an ATI Radeon X1300 just for vista.
Every time I run the upgrade it goes to start for the first time and then
blue screens on me. It then says Vista was not successful and rolls back to
XP. I have removed virtually everything extra from my machine, including
going back to my old video card and trying it. No USB devices plugged in.
Still doesnt work.

I have nothing in the box except for a 2 hard drives, and a video card. I
have read some crazy talk about flashing the bios....but can't rationalize
why that would that help.

I am very dissapointed. I really assumed Vista wouldnt be this difficult to
load and also cant believe there are this many people having problems
installing the os.

If anyone has any suggustions on loading this os (other than having me get a
drink with a pencil in my mouth) please let me know.

Thanks,

Bob

I can't either, but I've seen several posters here say that it fixed
their install problems. No guarantee that it would fix yours, of course.

You might try changing some very basic BIOS settings before you update
the BIOS -- like toggle whatever settings you now have for Plug-n-Play
and ACPI, for example.
