Vista Ultimate Recovery Problem

H

Hatch

Hi, can you help please.

I have tried using my Recovery DVD to carry out a 'Full Destructive
Recovery' in accordance with the 'Troubleshooting & Recovery' manual. The
process starts and gets as far as 'Copying files' phase then after around
half an hour I get an error message 'Error copying Vista.WIM to recovery
partition. Error Code 4'.

I click on OK (the only option). The laptop appears to carry on in the
'Copying Files' phase but even after a total of two hours nothing else
happens.

I have tried this three times with the same result.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Hatch.

Hi Hatch,

It may be hardware damage, a failed or failing drive, bad memory stick,
blown capacitor on the motherboard, etc. If you haven't already, you might
make sure BIOS settings are at default. Otherwise, you may need to enlist
the aid of a technician or contact the manufacturer for warranty work.

Hi Rick,

Thanks for you suggestions. I would like to think that it is not a hardware
fault as the laptop has only had a couple of months intermittent use.

I have now contacted the suppliers so hope they may come up with a more
precise answer.

Thanks again,

Brian.

Hi Brian,

Even new machines have hardware failure. In fact it's pretty common.
Hardware usually either fails a short time after the system goes into
regular use, or it lasts a long time. 'Tis why warranties are so important,
as when it fails in the short, it's usually within the first year, even on a
lightly used machine.
