Vista Ultimate hangs for 30 secs

I have been running Vista Ultimate on my home PC for a year. It is fine but
has an annoying habit of the screen freezing for EXACTLY 30 seconds (I have
the analogue clock with a second hand that also freezes and starts again 30
seconds later!). It tends to do this about 3 or 4 times after I first boot up
and then everything is fine. I have not installed SP1. Any ideas?

Thanks

Since it happens several times, why don't you launch Task Manager Processes
and see if you can spot one that is using your CPU cycles. If you have a
multi-core processor, you should set it to view multiple cores and see if
one is spiking to 100% during this process (performance). If, as happened
to me you end up with one core handling too much, you can set affinity as I
occasionally have to do.

And how, exactly, does one "set affinity?" (Not being intimately familiar
with that function... and thought others might like to know too...)
