Vista taking too long to resolve DNS?

I

Infocom

I have noticed that Vista takes a long time to resolve DNS (or something)
when browsing the internet. I have to wait like 10 seconds when going to a
new web site. Its fine when going back to a website I have been to (in the
same browser session - restarting brings back the wait). During this time it
states "Looking up ...." or "Waiting for ..." in the status bar. Then it
loads. On my XP machines on the same network using same router etc. it loads
instantly.

I've disabled the Toredo/6to4adapter, uninstalled McAffee/Norton, use
Windows Firewall, no AV at the moment. Its the same on IE and Firefox. I
recently uninstalled some security updates because my internet was slow and
thought I fixed this too, but I haven't. I have a HP Pavillion dv6000.

Anyone know why its so slow connecting?

Thanks

Hello Infocom,

How is your network setup? Routers servers etc. Post an ipconfig /all from
the machine.

Hello Infocom,

Did you talk to your ISP about the slow connection at the beginning? If you
have no own DNS server and it looks like this, may be the Providers DNS has
some problems with the resolving of the names. Can you manually change in
your dsl router the DNS server addresses?

Hi. Sorry for late reply I have been out...
But resolving DNS is Ok on all XP machines in the house. So my ISP shouldn't
make a difference should it? The only slow resolving of names is with Vista.
And I am no expert but doesn't my computer speak to my router which then
connects to the DNS? So the ISP wont know if its Vista or XP will it?

Hello Infocom,

Stop the Phishing filter in IE 7 via Tools, Phishing Filter and see if this
helps.

Also switched off Windows Firewall and still had the problem.

Well it looks like I fixed this by uninstalling even more updates, like how
fixed my last issue of a slow internet. I dont think I want to install any
more updates!
Its amazing how Microsofts years of OS experience can take us so far back!

Sorry I take that back... it started working fine at super speed again like
it was out of the box, but after a few minutes its gone back slow again, 10
seconds to connect to a website. So will keep trying (sigh)

Hi. I have an update on this problem... when I start Vista everything seems
to be OK for about 5 to 10 minutes. Web pages are found immediately. But
after this time the problem comes back, and it takes about 10 seconds to
find web pages then.

Infocom... I'm having the very same problem - and have not yet resolved it.
Do you have a resolution yet? I would appreciate any additional feedback.
Thanks...

hi , i've exactly the same problem ,
either iexplorer/firefox waits 10-30 seconds for dns resolve... after
resolving and saving on local dns cache it works fine ...until vista
auto flushes it's dns cache (10 minutes or so),
everything is working fine on my XP on the same pc - same dns/ tcp/ip
configuration so it's problem with Vista.

I would also appreciate any additional feedback.

PS : Maybe someone has an idea how to turn off auto flush of local dns
cache in Vista ? - it would partially solve my poblem ...

After a long time on the phone w/ Dell (of no help at all)... and a couple of
hours on the phone w/ Microsoft... The Microsoft tech got me going in the
right direction. Here is what solved the issue for me: KB929547. Check it
out.

This fixes a Vista issue with the way it handles certain Windows app code.
In my case, my firewall (CA Internet Suite) apparently was written using that
particular Windows coding - or whatever.

My Internet access is flying now. Let me know if it works for you.

Later.
