Vista Security Center Service Can't Start

I have been installing, using and unistalling several anti spyware, anti
malware and anti virus programmes one after another in a vain attempt to get
rid of "em.pc-on-internet.com" pop-unders on my standalone PC running on
Vista Home Premium.

I finally managed to stop the pop-unders (at least for the moment) by
downloading and running a programme called ComboFix. I also followed it's
suggestion to delete all prior Restore Points.

Unfortunately, now the Security Center Service does not run on start up,
although Defender and Firewall seem to be working OK, as does the installed
anti virus (NOD 32 by ESET). At least I don't keep getting the annoying "User
Access Control Is Turned Off" messages that usually plague me.

When I try to restart the Security Centre in Start/Programmes/Adminstrative
Tools/Services I get the error message:
"Error 1079: The account specified for this service is different from the
account specified for other services running in the same process"

Any ideas on how I can restart the Security Centre.
I have no old restore points to fall back upon, and I do not wish to have to
re-install Vista, as I only have the OEM installed copy (ie no discs) and
would lose all current work & configurations.

Edit:
When I right click on Properties for Security Center in Services, I get the
message:
"Configuration Manager. The specified device instance handle does not
correspond to a present device".
Does that mean I do not have a Security Center? If so, what can I do?

I am not telling you that you need to do this, but only how to get to the
service in question as check the Logon account. On my Vista machine for SC,
it's set to Local account, but I don't know what the psw is about as it was
preset.

Thanks for the tip,but it's not that. Remote Registry was already set to
Local User.

Any other ideas anybody?

Do you not understand that it's not about Remote Registry service?

It's about that error message.

"Error 1079: The account specified for this service is different from the
account specified for other services running in the same process"

It's about seeing a problem and possible solution to that problem that
could lead to a solution in your case. It's been plenty of times I have seen
a related type of problem and the solution in another area that lead me to
a solution with the same type of problem I was having in another area.

This is about problem solving and one's ability to put 2 and 2 together to
come up with a possible solution to fix a problem.

How is that problem about Remote Registry service and the essences of the
problem and the solution to the problem any different than the problem
you're having with a different service?

If nothing else, put that error message in the Google search engine and see
what others have done to fix the problem.

If nothing else, look at the other Service Dependencies that the service
must wait on before it can start (other services in the same process) and
see what they are using for user account and psw.

I had this error on my mom's computer. But here is the fix. Start services, go to Security Center property. Go to Log On tab and click This Account, then type in NT AUTHORITY\LocalService

To whom are you talking and about what?
The "forum" that you are posting in leaches off the Microsoft News servers
in order to make it look far busier than it really is. Everyone who uses the
MS News servers sees your post on it's own - we have NO IDEA what you are
