Vista Screensaves Missing?

Two weeks ago I upgraded my Dell computer from XP to Vista. After upgrading,
I found that there were several new screen savers and themes, including
aquarium and space station.

However, due to some compatibility problems, I had to completely clean
install Vista recently. After I finished installing Vista, I noticed that
I've lost a lot of the default screen savers. I only have Logo, Aurora,
Blank, Bubbles, Mystify, Photo, Ribbons, and Energy. I no longer have
Aquarium and Space Station. What happened? Is Aquarium and Space Station
part of the Vista default package?

I have run all Windows Update packages.

those were probably from other programs you had installed..

they are not part of vista and they are not part of XP either!

Perhaps you had XP plus? I think it has something like those screensavers..

however you cannot install XP plus on Vista, but perhaps you can copy those
screensavers from another Xp machine and manually put them in vista

These screen savers are not part of the default screen savers installed with
Vista.

If you performed a standard clean install with Vista, you may be able to
retrieve these screen savers.

Look for a "windows.old" folder on the C: drive. Expand that folder to the
System32 folder and look there for the files. They will have the .scr file
extension. If found, right click the file and select copy. Now go to the
C:\Windows\System32 folder, right click in this folder and select Paste. Do
this for each file you want copy.

If you got the screensavers via Microsoft Plus! don't hold your breath.
Microsoft Plus! was an add-on package one could run with XP and you lost it
when you installed Vista clean. Even if you do locate the Plus! screensavers
in Windows.old, it's only 50 / 50 that they will run as Plus! screensavers
need a product key and/or activation if I remember correctly. I don't think
it's just a simple matter of copying them over.

You might have had the screenssavers because your version of XP was Media
Center. If that is the case I still wonder if a simple copy over is
sufficient, but you can give it a try.

I have the Aquarium and Space screen savers. Not sure where they came from,
as I upgraded from XP MCE to Vista Home Premium. I also had XP Plus!
But they do work on Vista.

Windows MCE had some of these Plus! screensavers.
