Vista s/w compatibility

Hi -

I just got a new Dell desktop with Windows Home Premium, and have some
questions.

1. Is there a s/w compatibility list floating around? I would like to load
VB6 among other programs, and was wondering what is or isn't compatible with
Vista.

2. If I wanted to create a partition to have Windows XP media on the other
partition, how would I do that?

For information on support of VB6 in Vista see
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/vbrun/ms788708.aspx. As a note, I have
installed VB6 with SP6 on Vista and it works fine.

2. If I wanted to create a partition to have Windows XP media on the other

For this I prefer to use a robust partition and boot manager. This
allows me to keep the separate OS installations truly independent of
each other. I recommend Bootit NG from http://www.bootitng.com.

As for question #1 I too would like to see such a list. Most software
vendors will list whether their software is Vista compatible. So far I have
installed and used Firefox, Tuneup (a registry cleanup program), MS Office
2000, Winrar 3.6, and Open Office for Windows with no problems.

You can install VB 6. You have to do the install with escalated privileges,
by right clinking the setup.exe, and (Run as Admin) that's the only way it's
going to install, even if you're already admin.

You can only install VSS 2005 on Vista.

If you're doing Web development, then the version of IIS 7 on Premium is not
a full version of IIS that will match IIS 6. You have to upgrade to Vista
Business, Ultimate or Enterprise.

Vista is very touchy about anything non Vista compliant. You install it at
your own risk.
