Vista: Restore from back-up fails with error 0x80070057

Hi,

I'm trying to restore my Vista Home Premium environment from a full back-up
after my hard-drive failed. I re-installed Vista and looked at starting the
back-up that I had made a week earlier on a removeable drive. I turns out
that I could only restore using the Advanced Restore option with "Files made
from a back-up on another computer" as the other options were grayed out.

After starting the back-up, once the proper device, back-up archive date,
and "Restore everything" were specified, the back-up started successfully,
but failed after a few files with the following error:

---

The restore did not complete successfully

Restore did not finish successfully. Error code:

The parameter is incorrect 0x80070057

---

I'm now stuck and unable to proceed with my restore. Does anyone have any
idea on how the cause of this and how to resolve it?

Thanks in advance for any and all help!!

Hi Pep,

Error: 0x80070057 - File Backup fails with the following error:
The parameter is incorrect.

This error is caused by a bug in File Backup where if you don't back up at
least one file during the full backup, every backup after that fails. The
workaround is to go through the Backup wizard again and choose a new full
file backup at the very end.

Hi Bert,

Thanks for your reply! My back-up was created without any errors; it's the
restore the fails.
