You can run the DVD and install directly from within XP. Do you wish to
upgrade XP or do a clean install? do you wish to keep XP and do a dual
boot? Have you considered what you want to do?
Plus , what about the key for installing Vista RC1 ? I understood that

Do I have to install Vista RC1 from within a DVD (after burning it to DVD)
?

you can boot the PC from that DVD and choose in your BIOS to use DVD-Drive
as the bootdrive before it attempts to boot from the Harddrive. = absolute
cleanest install, install as a second OS ( XP plus Vista ) and
HDD-Diagnosis.

or you can insert the DVD while you are in XP and can do an upgrade from XP
to Vista ( You cannot undo that later ! )
What exactly should I do in order to burn the ISO file on DVD (and what

Do not experiments with the content of the ISO - it will destroy the
structure!

Take a Burning Program and choose "burn Image to DVD" - a simple one and
free is ImgBurn (XP/Vista)

Do not just copy the iso to a DVD - you must use a Program to manage isos.

XP itself cannot burn isos, only plain files.
Plus , what about the key for installing Vista RC1 ? I understood that
the key is the same key when registering to Vista Beta 2 (formerly) : I

You can install without a Key, choose ULTIMATE and reregister when MSFT
reopens the CPP Program, you will then get a KEY valid for 10 activations.
Vista itself runs with a timebomb to go off on June 2007.No Way to avoid
that.

You can install the RC1 without a key, then sign up for one when the CPP
reopens for new users. You will have a 14 day grace period to use the
product, hopefully, it will be available within that time.

As for installing:
How do I install Windows Vista Release Candidate 1?
There are a few methods available; you can use either Virtual Drive software
such as Daemon Tools 4.03 or NERO Image Drive. You can burn the DVD as an
image using DVD Burning software such as Roxio or NERO.
http://www.daemon-tools.cc

If you have DVD burn and available media, you can burn it to a blank DVD and
launch setup from within Windows and select the destination drive or boot
from the disk and select the destination drive. Do, not extract the ISO
image, burn it directly to disk.

Instructions for burning:

NERO
Insert a Blank DVD, open Nero Start Smart > change the media type to DVD >
select Copy and Backup > click "Burn Image to Disc" > navigate to where the
Windows Vista BETA 2 Image is stored on your hard disk, (note: if you don't
see it, make sure the image file type is changed to "ISO" click Open and the
burning wizard will automatically start.

Roxio
Open Creator Classic > click File > "Record Disc from Image" > navigate to
where the Windows Vista BETA 2 Image is stored > click Open and the burning
wizard will automatically start.
Ensure that the ISO burns at a low speed, recommended speed, 2x for best
results.

SATA/RAID configurations, please ensure you have appropriate drivers for
either x86 or x64 platform to load when requested during setup. Also remove
any unnecessary external devices that might cause problems detecting during
setup, this includes external drives and USB based devices.

I want a dual-boot . If trying to install from within WinXP , it reports
the following error message :

The application or DLL C:\Vista RC1\LR1CFRE_EN_DVD\Sources\SPWIZENG.DLL is
not a valid Windows image . Please check this against your installation
diskette .

After clicking "OK" here , it says :

The file "autorun.dll" could not be loaded or is corrupt . Setup cannot
continue . Error code is [0xC1] .

This is the same error message when trying to install Vista Beta 2 from

Do the error messages above mean that something went wrong with the
download of the 32-bit ISO file ? or hardware equipment is not
sufficient to install Vista ?

Sounds like you have burned the image badly.
In your burning program did you choose to burn image/iso ??

For what its worth, if you have not got a key then there is no point in
trying anyway. You need your beta2 key.

S

Sascha Benjamin Jazbec

sounds like you have played with the contents of the iso or you have not
burned it via Image to DVD.
Are you trying to open the iso with winrar or some other program ?

You cannot install it by doing so.

No you don't extract the ISO.
Just open up your DVD burning program and choose burn ISo or burn IMAGE.
then point the browser to your vista download. That is all you need to do.

S

Sascha Benjamin Jazbec

I hope you still have the original untouched iso-file on your harddisk.

Delete all the folders you have extracted from it and go the way over to
burn it like in this thread it was explained.

If you don't have the iso anymore ( look in the recycle-bin if its still
there ) I am afraid you must download again.

One last word for what a iso is :

Isos can be opened in various programs, and yes, they contain folders and
files, but they are not just huge zip-archives, indeed they are virtual CDs
or DVDs - that need to be reconverted into physical Media.

The other way round, you can take lets say your favorite Program-CD and load
it into your Burning Program and choose to make a iso of it, so that your
physical CD now resides on your Harddisk for archiving purposes. If your
original gets destroyed/stolen you then can make of your archived Iso again
a physical disk.

When I downloaded windows vista rc1, there was 2 files downloaded.

There was one called :

another one called
"vista_5600.16384.060829-2230_x86fre_client-lr1cfre_en_dvd.iso"

The "vista_5600.16384.060829-2230_x86fre_client-lr1cfre_en_dvd.iso" is 2.1G
and the other one is 2.5G.

I whent to nero and selected burn image to disk. When I selected the file
(the 2.1G one) there was a message that said : the size of the file isin't
the same as the size of the image. The size of the file is probably
corrupted. Do you want to correct the problem or ignore the problem?

Matthew, the 2.1 GB file size is incorrect. The .iso is 2.5 GB, and that is
what needs to be burned to disc. It is possible that you have an incomplete
download. The one with the .dlm extension is the 'temprorary' file created
by the download manager, which turns into the complete .iso image file on
successful download.

Yes , the 32-bit ISO file download is complete .

Do I have to install Vista RC1 from within a DVD (after burning it
to
DVD)
?
What exactly should I do in order to burn the ISO file on DVD (and
what
should I do with the file Microsoft Corporation.img and
BootCatalog.cat
from the Bootable CD directory , when burning to DVD) ?

Plus , what about the key for installing Vista RC1 ? I understood
that
the key is the same key when registering to Vista Beta 2 (formerly)
:
I
registered then , but deleted MS's email with the key . What
should I
do
in order to get the key ?

Thanks in advance ,
Lior .

When I downloaded windows vista rc1, there was 2 files downloaded.

There was one called :
"vista_5600.16384.060829-2230_x86fre_client-lr1cfre_en_dvd.iso.dlm" and
another one called
"vista_5600.16384.060829-2230_x86fre_client-lr1cfre_en_dvd.iso"

The "vista_5600.16384.060829-2230_x86fre_client-lr1cfre_en_dvd.iso" is
2.1G
and the other one is 2.5G.

I whent to nero and selected burn image to disk. When I selected the
file
(the 2.1G one) there was a message that said : the size of the file
isin't
the same as the size of the image. The size of the file is probably
corrupted. Do you want to correct the problem or ignore the problem?

I selected ignore the problem and burned the 2.1G file at the fastest
speed.
When it was done, I opened the cd and a screen poped up and said : the
application or DLL C:\Vista RC1\LR1CFRE_EN_DVD\Sources\SPWIZENG.DLLis
not
a
valid Windows image . Please check this against your installation
diskette
.

After clicking "OK" here , it says :

The file "autorun.dll" could not be loaded or is corrupt . Setup cannot
continue . Error code is [0xC1].

What file should I burn? and how do I fix the problem with the autorun?

Thanks, Matthew
