Vista product keys are not backwards compatible. You must use the pk that
came with your XP.

You would need to perform a clean install of winxp, or use your Ghost
recovery cd to boot and install the image
You will require an unused winxp key

If you have Vista Business or Ultimate, you have downgrade rights to XP.
It's up to you to supply the install media, which you apparently
have, and you will apply to MS for a new activation key.

If your computer came with Vista Business or Ultimate preinstalled and you
have a copy of XP Pro you can install XP Pro and when you reach the
activation screen do NOT activate over the internet. Instead, use phone
activation and tell the agent that you are downgrading from a business
edition of Vista. The agent will want the product key and COA of both XP
and Vista and will give you a 40-character string to activate XP. I believe
that your copy of XP Pro can be one already installed on another computer.
